Concept
Post-Industrial Oneiric Archaeology presents a nature norte, built from pieces of obsolete technologies, onto which a virtual scenography is projected. The combination of these seemingly unrelated, physical and virtual elements transforms the composition into a re-animated exquisite corpse. As in other works of the series, the (silent) animated composition is approached with a musical sense of rhythm and balance.
The design of this artwork evokes the style of Art Deco radios from the 1930s and 40s, which are characterized by an aesthetic development, beyond their functionality; there is a explicit intention in their design towards the visual impact of the device. It was a time of political upheaval and financial crisis, in which the radio became much more than a means of communication. It symbolized the beginning of the era of the machine; a new future that positioned it as a builder of realities.
The confluence in this work of mixed reality techniques with antique magic tricks, suggests a meeting of past, future and what could have been, in the constantly mutating instant. Other nods to history include iconography reminiscent of Vanitas paintings or memento mori, aimed at capturing the passage of ephemeral elements, such as time and light.
