Concept
Muted Wavescape presents a moving landscape of silent, visible sound-waves held within a vintage radio. The artwork's various layers of reflection offer an intriguing optical puzzle and an invitation to explore multi-dimensional compositions.
The time dimension is also included in the rhythmic sense of the animated composition, as well as in the evocation of traveling back to a time when the voice of the radio was at the centre of the living room. The spectral presence of a skull summons the passage of the ephemeral, as a phantasmagoric apparition from the past.
On one hand, the piece is a tribute to the obsolete technology it uses; on the other, it draws attention to the contrast between old and new media.
